February is the shortest longest month of the year. Snow storm after snow storm here and the sun nowhere to be seen. The best way to cheer up, in my opinion, is to think about all the lovely things you will do when the warmer days arrive: go for an outdoor run, buy fresh flowers and wear bright cloths.

Here are 5 things that made me happy this past week.

  1. New Balance Classics
  2. J Crew Tortoise Wildflower Cuff
  3. Chocolate-Hazelnut Snowballs
  4. Painted Wooden Vases
  5. Suede Zip Pouch

The Maxi Love

Finding the right dress is a tricky task. Finding the right maxi dress is even more difficult. You HAVE to find that perfect balance between your height and the length of the dress. I am a 5″9, and whenever I tried a maxi dress in the past it was either too short or too long. No matter the brand or the size, I just couldn’t find a flattering one. Then, I found Mara Hoffman, and fell in love.

The print, the cut, the fabric and the length are just perfect! It is by far one of my favorite pieces. It is comfortable and fun. It looks amazing with flip flops on the beach or with studded sandals in the evening. What more can you ask for?

50 Shades of White

When I first moved to the United States I learned (for the first time) that apparently there is a rule where you can’t wear White after Labor Day. I thought it was strange. Some years, it is still warm and sunny in September, so why not wear White?! But rules, are rules, and that year I was the ONLY one wearing White jeans in mid-September (which was perfectly fine by me).

By now, half of the Summer is already behind us, I thought it only made sense to create an inspiration board of everything White for the rest of the Summer. While browsing the web for ideas, I kept looking at all the beautiful photos people are posting on Instagram from Capri and Portofino

My first inspiration is actually from Chanel’s Fall 2014 Couture runway show. I dream of this dress. Karl Lagerfeld’s creative mind is amazing. As Tim Blanks from described Chanel’s runway show last week: “…there was look after look of a gorgeousness so exquisite it could only be achieved in ateliers that were accustomed to confronting the impossible—and mastering it.”

So, here are my ideas for a  stylish vacation in the Italian Riviera! Oh, and “gorgeousness” is my new favorite word.

Buon Viaggio!

Everything Stripes

In the last few weeks I’ve felt a need for some fresh ideas and inspiration. Only one thing came to mind – stripes. I’m discovering my love for prints, and a stripe print is one of the most versatile prints out there. When I create inspiration boards, it helps me prepare for future projects. In this case adding decorating accents to the house and preparing for my Fall wardrobe.

I browsed my usual suspects for ideas: VINCE and MILLY (wardrobe); One Kings Lane (decor); Land of Nod (again, decor.)  By creating this board, I noticed how drawn I am to a very specific color pallet: navy blue, aqua, gray, pink, black&white. The dress and the coat are going to my MUST HAVE list for fall.

I found today some beautiful navy blue outdoor pillows for our outside living space. Exactly what I needed – a little bit of inspiration to keep me going!

Online Affiars

I am often asked: “Where do you shop?”  The reason, I guess, is because I live in a small town in the mid-west. Nothing exciting here, unless you count Target. The closest mall is about 45 minutes away, and the only thing interesting there is J Crew.

So, I do 95% of my shopping online. And I mean, furniture, home decor and necessities, cloths, shoes, makeup , skin care and  diapers. I know some people may be hesitant when it comes for online shopping, but I find it easy and convenient. That being said, I buy from the same vendors almost every time, so I  know what to expect in terms of shipping, returns and customer service.

The list below includes my “usual suspects”. I buy there all the time, and never had a bad experience.

  1. Room and Board – I came across this store strolling through the streets of Chicago and immediately fell in love. All the furniture in my house is from there. After doing our first major order in the store, I did the rest through their website. I found it to have all the images and the information you need  in order to buy online – even a sofa!
  2. One Kings Lane – is a limited time sale website that offers the best of top-brand, vintage and designer items for the home. You never know what you’re going to find and it’s only going to be available for 2-4 days, so you better hurry.
  3. West Elm – Pottery Barn’s cool sister. I found a lot of  home accessories, always at a great price.
  4. Bloomingdale’s – My own personal mall. I buy everything there. All my skincare, makeup, cloths, shoes, dishes, towels… you name it – I buy it through Bloomingdale’s. The reason is that they carry all the brands that I love, and I learned that it really pays off to be loyal to a specific store. You can receive benefits such as free shipping, special discount at certain events etc. Also, Bloomingdale’s will give you loyalist points to turn into cash for future purchases.
  5. Amazon and Zappos – No explanation needed. I will say this, Amazon Prime is a mother’s best friend. The idea that almost everything can be delivered to my house within 48 hours – priceless!
  6. Tea Collection and Mini Boden – Two of my favorite Children’s wear lines. I love the styles, the fabrics and how the clothes look after 10 loads in the washer.
  7. The Land of Nod – Crate and Barrel’s little sister. Beautiful furniture and home decor for kids. I love everything about them. Great, great design.
  8. The Honest Company – I read an article with Jessica Alba (one of the founders) and decided to give them a try. For the last year each month I get a bundle of diapers and wipes. Their products are safe, eco-friendly, beautiful,  and convenient. There is something to be said about a diaper covered with  a strawberry print.

A little bit of a fashion-art-cooking “Bookworm”

The last few weeks I’ve become somewhat of a “bookworm”. Since we moved into our new house last year, I have been on a mission to fill all my empty shelves with books that inspire me.

I have been buying books about art, fashion, interior design and cooking. I must confess that other than fashion and art, cooking is my biggest passion. I don’t really follow recipes but, I love to browse cookbooks and get great ideas for the family menu.

Here are a few snapshots from some of my favorite books-of-the-day:
