New Beauty Buys

I have recently decided to expand my beauty horizons and try something new. It’s my philosophy that if I like the product and I’ve been using it for years…why change? Well, there are actually many reasons to update the beauty routine but the main one is that your skin gets comfortable and those lovely ingredients stop working their magic.

I did a little research, read a bit and browsed some more before deciding on a new beauty regime that combines the main stream with high end products. I have been using all these products over the last couple of months and I’m super happy. My skin feels fresh and rejuvenated! This is exactly what I need in preparation for the cold and dry Michigan Winter ahead.

That Perfect Lipstick

A couple of weeks ago I read a post by “The chic mommy” about her favorite red lipstick. This got me thinking about what my confident boosting, can’t-live-without must-have lipstick colors are. Well…I have five of them and all are by the same brand. I am loyal that way – if I find a product I love, I buy more in the same brand.

I don’t remember exactly when it happened that I fell deeply in love with Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks. All I know is that I started with one, and today I’m writing about my favorite five.

The colors below belong to three different categories in their makeup line: the mandarin, pomegranate and berry colors are part of the  Volupte’ Sheer Candy line. They are light weight, almost see through and give a perfect hint of color. I wear them mainly during the day. They are Summer like colors but I wear them all year long.   The “Rouge in Danger” color is my perfect red. It belongs to  the Rouge Volupte’ Shine collection. The color is much stronger and shiny. I love everything about this red! I cannot explain what it does, but for me it’s the magic makeup. Last, is the “Forbidden Burgundy” that belongs to the Rouge Volupte’ line. It’s a super strong and deep color that provides full coverage and lasts for a very dramatic look for Fall/Winter and this is the perfect fit.

What’s in my makeup bag?

I must start this post with a confession: I don’t wear makeup daily and sometimes if we have a quiet weekend I don’t wear makeup for over a week. When I wake up in the morning I’m “on the go” with my girls and I just don’t have time for myself. And honestly, I feel comfortable in my own skin. That being said, I love the way I look wearing makeup and I know how to apply it in a way that brings out the best of me.

Over the years, when ever I would get my makeup professionally done, I would ask as many questions as I could to learn what is the best way for me to apply makeup. What products should I use, what tools are recommended for me, etc. The result is that when I do wear makeup it suits me perfectly. I don’t know how to do smoky eyes, but I do know how to flawlessly apply red lipstick, and basically, that’s all you need to know in life.

The items below are my bullet proof, go-to, can’t go wrong products, and the most important thing – they always produce the same result: me looking at my best.

Here’s my list:

  1. Concealer –  Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat makes my eyes look as if  I slept a good 10 hour sleep. It takes all the darkness away and brings light. Some days, it’s the only thing I put on.
  2. Primer – Lancome La Base Pro Makeup Primer is surprisingly very light. It makes the surface of the skin smooth and moist. It keeps the makeup look good even after wearing it all day long.
  3. Makeup – Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour is the makeup I’m using at the moment. I keep switching them, but I’m happy with it because, I will always get complements that I’m “glowing” with it.
  4. Blush – During the winter months when I’m as pale as the snow outside, I use Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Pink Mosaic. I just love everything about it, especially that it is very subtle.  During the summer I love NARS Orgasam. I think you have to experience it on yourself, but it just makes the world better, more confident.
  5. Eyebrow – I’m a firm believer that everything starts and ends with eyebrows. You have to keep them in shape, take good care of them because, they rarely forgive you and grow back. The CHANEL sculpting eyebrow pencil just makes the job easy.
  6. Lips – Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine is the best lipstick out there. I have them in so many colors it’s disturbing. They just make my lips feel soft and shine bright like a diamond…
  7. Mascara – Lancome Hypnose Custom Volume Mascara makes my eyes look as if I have big full lashes. What more can you ask for?
  8. Eye shadow – Dex of DEX New York is an amazing makeup artist. He creates the most beautiful shades of colors. My favorite color is the “Grand Central” brown. It makes my boring brown eyes looks like something special.

Skincare Favorites

I am often asked about my skincare routine or my favorite products. So, I decided to share with you my skincare essentials. And no, I am not some kind of a beauty guru, far from it. I am just a busy mom trying to get it all done with only 24 hours in a day.

I think the most important advice I ever got  was about water, and how essential it is for a beautiful skin. I ALWAYS have a water bottle with me especially in these long, dry winter months. When there is a day that I don’t drink enough I can see the effects immediately – my skin looks dry and faded. I also keep a very balanced diet consisting of a lot of vegetables, fruit and grains. Oh, don’t get me wrong I have my caffeine fix 3 times a day and my white wine in the evening, but I try to treat my body with respect and feed it well!

The products below are my day-to-day skincare routine. In my opinion, you need to try a product for a month before deciding if it’s right for you or not. Sometimes, especially after switching products, it takes the skin a while to adjust.

OK, so what do we have here?

creams

  1. Face wash – I love the gel texture of this face wash. I feel that it just takes the day away and leaves my skin really clean.
  2. Serum – I didn’t really start using it until my 30th birthday. I think that now, I need to change gear and start thinking of preemptive measures. It is light, refreshing and gentle on the skin.
  3. BB cream – I don’t wear make-up on a regular basis. I think that up until recently I didn’t think I need it. What I love about the NARS bb cream, is that it comes in 15 shades, so I was able to find a perfect match. It hydrates the skin and makes me look glowing and fresh. I absolutely LOVE it!
  4. Make up remover – I never ever go to sleep with my make up on. That does the job without the need to “rub” your eyes to take the Mascara off.
  5. Eye cream – because, even I can see the fine lines and wish to make them go away.
  6. Face cream – Michigan in the winter is a very dry place and my skin tends to dry. This cream is like applying butter on your face. It is so thick and rich that it creates a barrier between my face and the elements. I only use it in the winter months, because it can be too heavy for the summer. But, for now, It’s a life saver.
